You can check the menu online at Chuo Shokudo...

Q:

I'm a student at Hongo University. I can check the menu for the Central Cafeteria online. This is very convenient and appreciated. Can I also check the menus for the Metro Cafeteria and the Second Cafeteria? I'd appreciate it if you could let me know.

A:

The menus for the Central and Komaba cafeterias are displayed on comenu, but for Metro, the Second Cafeteria, and the Faculty of Agriculture, they are not displayed due to cost and personnel constraints. We will consider this internally, but please check in-store until the implementation.

There's hair in the udon...

Q:

There was a hair in the udon so I would like you to check it before serving it to me.

A:

We apologize for any inconvenience caused this time.
We have shared this information with the noodle supplier. We will thoroughly check again to ensure this does not happen again. In the future, if you notice anything, we would appreciate it if you would speak to a Co-op staff member on the spot.

I haven't seen the monster Mango Loco lately...

Q:

I haven't seen the Monster Mango Loco at the store lately... I used to drink it almost every day, so I hope it comes back! I think the wide variety of Monster flavors was also a good thing about the store.
> Thank you very much!

A:

Monster Mango Loco,
Currently, due to the impact of a cyber attack on the Asahi Group,
I am unable to place an order.
Monster is an Asahi product
Not just Mango Loco, but all varieties
We have been informed that the item is out of stock.

Asahi's system has been restored.
If you can now order this too
I will arrange it immediately
Please wait until then!

The designated textbook is a foreign book...

Q:

In one of my S semester classes, the assigned textbook was a foreign book, and the teacher said, "Last time, we tried to get foreign books from the Co-op bookstore, but it turned out to be a hassle, so we decided not to do it this time. You'll have to try your best to get them yourself." It was a pain to have to create an Amazon account just for that. I would be very grateful if the Co-op could make it easier for students to purchase foreign books.

A:

Some foreign textbooks and specialized books have special distribution methods, and cannot be purchased through standard purchasing methods or are subject to purchasing conditions. This textbook appears to fall into this category. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.
We have an inquiry form on the page where we publish information about textbook sales, so if you contact us, we will be happy to assist you with ordering foreign books. Please make use of this form if you have the opportunity in the future.https://www.utcoop.or.jp/service/books/textbook/

On the confirmation screen of this inquiry form...

Q:

On the confirmation screen for this inquiry form, there seems to be no option other than "Submit." If you want to edit the content, you have to open a new tab and copy and paste from scratch, so I think it would be good to add a function like "Go back" or "Edit content."

A:

We have made the corrections to the contact form as suggested.

I'm groaning about purchasing...

Q:

I'm glad that educational sweets such as Neru Neru Neru are available at the store.

A:

Educational sweets such as Neru-Neru-Neru are not available at the university co-op.
I'm sorry.
If it is proposed as a planned product in the future,
We will consider selling it.

I never thought I'd see such blatant xenophobia on campus...

Q:

Just after 1:00 p.m. today, on the first floor of Komaba Dining Hall, an elderly man who appeared to be quite old started accusing some Chinese international students who were eating and chatting, saying, "You're in the way. This is Japan. Speak Japanese."
I don't think these international students were talking loudly or causing any trouble to those around them. Although it's impossible to judge by appearance, I think the elderly people were probably from outside the university, but I never expected to see such blatant xenophobia on campus, and it was a shock to me.
I think it is a good thing that the Co-op's facilities are open to many people, not just those on campus, but that is precisely why I think it is important that the Co-op, as one of the spaces that make up the university (and which is extremely important as it is responsible for food), should make it clear that it is a place that can be used safely regardless of nationality, ethnicity, or gender, and that such hatred will not be tolerated, and that they should also make this clear to users at the cafeteria.

A:

As you mentioned, the University of Tokyo itself is an open university that is used not only by students and faculty but also by local residents and tourists, and the Co-op facilities are used by a variety of people. We would like to convey that it is a place that everyone can use with peace of mind, which is also the Co-op's wish.

I feel that it is used by foreign tourists a lot...

Q:

Recently, I feel that foreign tourists are using it regardless of the day or time of the week. It is not a problem to use it, but the following disadvantages have occurred, so please consider some kind of solution.
1. On weekdays between 11:30am and 13:00pm, there are posts in English and Chinese that outsiders cannot use the service, but we see scenes that foreign tourists use it every day without caring about it. We would like you to take more effective measures to address this.
2. Foreign tourists often have to wait for their billing, and this is why people behind them often have to wait, so we would like to ask that you also open a cash register dedicated to co-op money. (This is not a solution as it includes credit cards and transportation ICs only for electronic money.)

Thank you for your continued efforts to run the cafeteria. Although Central Restaurant may also serve as a tourist destination, we would appreciate your serious consideration if the situation would undermine the convenience of students and faculty who use it on a daily basis. Thank you very much.

A:

・We apologize for any inconvenience caused regarding this opinion regarding this. The co-op takes the situation seriously, and is considering measures to take.
・About the opinion of 2, we have a maximum of two cash registers dedicated to co-op money when it is busy. Due to a lack of personnel, there are some days when only one dedicated management register is required, so we apologize for any inconvenience caused. We will increase the number of cash registers dedicated to co-op money as much as possible.

Paying JR tickets with the base money of the Co-op...

Q:

We would appreciate it if you could make it possible to pay JR tickets at the Travel Center (Komaba, Hongo) with the Co-op's base money.

A:

Currently, products sold at Travel Centers are only available for cashless payment by credit cards.
The reason is that Travel Center products are subject to refunds due to cancellations on a daily basis.
If a refund occurs, the refund will be made using the same settlement method as the payment method.
Therefore, if your payment with base money is cancelled, you will need to return it to base money.
Systemically it is difficult to deal with the difference by deducting cancellation fees and refund fees, and it is also complicated to operate the store.
There is also a problem that JR tickets can be refunded as gift certificates at the Midori counter in the market.
(The system has been established to restrict refunds for credit card payment tickets to only stores that purchase the card.)

If there are any future trends in usage situations and any movements such as simplifying system compatibility, we will consider how to handle it.

I would like to see a salt-free menu as well...

Q:

Thank you for your delicious food as always.
I have high blood pressure and have severe salt restrictions. Just like halal vegan menus, I would like them to develop salt-free menus (and make sure they can tell they don't contain salt). If people who need seasonings such as sauces can be poured later, I think the menu will be available for everyone to eat.

A:

At the moment, we have no salt-free ingredients, so we are very sorry, but please be aware that we are unable to meet your requests.
