Regarding the new cash register introduced on September 1st...

Q:

I would like to inquire about the new cash register introduced on September 1st. It seems that each facility in the co-op, especially the cafeteria, is having a hard time dealing with the new machines. I am sorry to say that you are already struggling to respond, but I would like to ask you three questions regarding this.

・What is the cause?
It's possible that it's just that the new machines aren't used to them and it's taking a long time to operate them, or that there's a problem with the system. As a result, it seems that the deterioration of the user interface of the machine itself is also the cause. . Regarding this point, if there are any opinions from those who actually operate the cash register, I would like to ask how the co-op perceives the cause.

・Are there any countermeasures currently in place?
Please let us know if you have any countermeasures that you are implementing or considering to address the above causes.

・Is there a prospect to improve the time efficiency of the cash register and raise it to the previous level by the start of the class period (early October)?
If the school period continues as it is, it is expected that the cafeteria and shopping areas will be much more crowded than before. Frankly speaking as a user, if that happens, the option of using a non-co-op facility when you don't have time to spare will be a realistic option. Therefore, I am sure that you are aware that the start date of the class period (around October 3rd) is one of the limits for improving the situation. If the cause of the problem is familiarity or a defect, there is room for improvement. Only a short time has passed since the problem was discovered, but I would like to hear your thoughts at the moment, based on the cause and countermeasures.

There is no problem with the parts that can be answered, so thank you for your cooperation.

A:

Thank you for always using the University of Tokyo Co-op. We apologize for causing concern to everyone due to the replacement of the cash register. Thank you for contacting us again. We will answer the following requests, mainly regarding the Chuo Shokudo. We sincerely apologize for the late reply.
I. About the cause 0) The first day of cash register replacement was reached without getting used to it and preparing enough. 1) There was a mistake in changing the UI of the cash register operation screen (the order of food menus). Conventionally, the cash register operated a menu screen on a cash register panel specialized for each cafeteria. In the central cafeteria, the standard delivery screen is set as the default at the time of replacement, and the number of processes to call up the menu has increased significantly. 2) There is a time lag due to the panel operation necessary to welcome the next customer after the checkout payment is settled. There are multiple button operations that were not necessary at the cash register in the past, which causes time lag and stress. 3) The cause is the time lag that occurs when linking the cash register → Stella terminal (multi-payment terminal), and the specification that requires the input of the PIN number of the credit card.
II. About countermeasures 1) In order to change from the standard screen to the UI reorganized independently for each cafeteria, it is expected that the screen operation will be improved. 2) We are planning to change the specifications of the system that automatically transitions to the initial screen after the cash register payment. 3) Credit card PIN entry will be canceled up to a certain amount. Due to the specifications, there is currently no countermeasure for the time lag from the cash register to the connection with the Stella Terminal.
III. About the guideline at the time of the A semester 1) Improvement is expected (at the central cafeteria) in the week of September 12th. 2) I received a report that the specification of the system has changed and that it will not be delivered in time for October 3rd. 3) PIN entry will be modified around September 15th so that it will not be necessary up to a certain amount.
In addition, it has been found that payment is relatively fast because school cafeteria money and cash payments do not require a Stella terminal. We will consider setting up separate cash registers for school cafeteria money and cash registers, and measures to encourage the use of school cafeteria money. We do not have any prospects for returning to the previous level when the A semester starts, but we will continue to make necessary improvements. We apologize for the inconvenience, but thank you for your continued support.

Why did you change the app...

Q:

Why did you change to the app when paying for the school cafeteria pass using the previous transportation IC card was comfortable enough? Problems include the need for a smartphone, the need for multiple registrations and logins within the app, the difficulty in receiving radio waves at Hongo Chuo Shokudo, and the need to activate the app before paying. . In the first place, it is unnatural to require a smartphone for the school cafeteria pass, which should be usable if there is enough money to deposit the conventional deposit and the school cafeteria pass. In addition, the transition that accompanied this was done arbitrarily and rapidly without considering the opinions of the students at all, and it must be said that users are neglected. Secondly, multiple logins are required within the app. In the first place, since I have registered for the school cafeteria pass, I should not need to register or log in any more, and I feel that I am being asked to do an unnecessarily complicated process. Third, Hongo's central cafeteria is difficult to receive radio waves due to structural problems. Finally, it is conceivable that the processing at the register becomes complicated. Using the app requires multiple operations such as unlocking the smartphone, logging in, selecting payment, and selecting the school cafeteria pass. The restaurant is expected to be even busier.
Why on earth did the students make such a change that no one asked for? Hopefully, they will return to the transportation IC card system.

A:

Thank you for always using the co-op. Thank you for your contribution. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the transition from the school cafeteria pass to school cafeteria money. The school cafeteria pass system was linked to a POS cash register (manufactured by Toshiba TEC Co., Ltd.) that was shared not only by the University of Tokyo co-op but also by many co-ops in the Tokyo area. This time, due to the large-scale renovation of the system of the university co-op group nationwide, including the Tokyo area, the cash register will also be changed, and the system of the school cafeteria pass that was used only in the Tokyo area will be renewed and made into a smartphone app: Gakushoku Money It came to be done. We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused to our members by switching systems. The transition from the school cafeteria pass to school cafeteria money is due to the renewal of the nationwide system as described above, but the functions so far (cashless use at the co-op cafeteria, limited use for eating, My page usage history and nutrition information) will be basically maintained. In the future, we plan to implement point grants according to single items, events, fairs, etc. In addition to cafeterias, co-ops handle foods such as boxed lunches and beverages not only at cafeterias but also at stores where they are purchased. By promoting the use of the cafeteria and the purchasing department, we would like to help alleviate congestion. Lastly, we would like to consult with you individually about how to deal with union members who do not have a smartphone and who are currently using a school cafeteria pass. We believe that it is necessary to consider usage and payment methods other than smartphones systematically. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the system change. Thank you for your continued support.
