The Help Scholarship System is an initiative of the National University Cooperative Scholarship Foundation, a general incorporated foundation, to provide emergency support of 100,000 yen, which does not require repayment, to students who have lost a dependent and are finding it difficult to continue their studies. This is a scholarship system that supports students to continue their studies by providing them with the following benefits (currently).
In fiscal year 2023 (October 2022 to September 2023), 77 people donated 1,232,027 yen to the University of Tokyo to enhance the system, and received letters of appreciation.
In 2023, the University Co-op Scholarship Foundation awarded 34.52 million yen in support scholarships to 347 students across the country who had lost their dependents and were able to support them in continuing their studies. Of these, six people at the University of Tokyo are receiving benefits.
