The University of Tokyo Consumers' Co-operative (hereinafter referred to as "Party A") and the University of Tokyo Press (hereinafter referred to as "Party B") enter into the agreement as follows:
Shortly after the war, Company B was founded on the foundation of the University of Tokyo Cooperative Publishing Department, the predecessor of Company A, and both companies have shared this history. Today, as we reach the milestone of our 70th anniversary, the way in which books and publishing businesses are conducted within universities is being re-evaluated amidst rapidly changing global circumstances. In this situation, it is expected that strengthening cooperation between Company A and Company B will be significant not only from a business perspective, but also in terms of promoting a culture in which people who constitute the intellectual community of the university learn, question, and discuss together.
Because both companies have a long history of handling books as a medium, disseminating academic information, and engaging in peace activities symbolized by the publication of "Listen to the Voices of the Sea," we are confident that this agreement will serve as a starting point to further leverage, share, and elevate each other's strengths.
