10. What are some of the advantages of using a meal pass?

Saving money on food / great deals

  • You can save on food expenses
  • It's a good deal, and as a parent, I'm also relieved that it helps ensure my child eats properly
  • The advantage of being able to eat at a good price
  • Discounts available
  • No need to prepare money each time - a great deal
  • One of the advantages is that food expenses don't get too high
  • Where to buy at a good price
  • It is a good deal
  • One of the advantages is that you can enjoy a discount if you spend over 700 yen
  • I can keep costs down a bit and eat for 700 yen a day. If I only eat the main dish, it won't reach 700 yen, so I can also eat side dishes

Food expense management / Remittance management

  • Not having to worry about the cost of meals
  • Managing food expenses
  • You can manage your food expenses
  • Easy to manage food expenses
  • Since I'm buying it in advance, I won't be saving money on food
  • The fact that I don't have to pay for meals regularly
  • The fact that you don't have to pay money regularly
  • Don't overspend
  • Easy to manage without hassle
  • It makes you more conscious of how much you're spending on food

Parents can check usage status and feel secure

  • Places where you can give money to your child for food expenses, and where you can check how it's being used
  • From a parent's perspective, it allows you to confirm that your child is going to school and eating properly
  • I don't have to hand over money for groceries each time. I don't check it frequently, but we can share it through the app
  • Since we're far apart, it's good that I can check if they're eating
  • As a parent, I appreciate being able to keep track of my child's eating habits when they live alone, and it also makes managing food expenses easier
  • You can get a general idea of what someone is eating from their purchase history
  • Knowing the nutritional balance and what you've eaten gives you peace of mind

Being able to eat properly and forming good eating habits

  • I can eat a proper meal every day
  • Available every day
  • They eat heartily without worrying about the cost
  • This becomes a motivation to actively head to the cafeteria
  • If you go to school, you can get a meal
  • I feel like eating lunch
  • I've been eating at the university cafeteria more often
  • I can have a proper lunch
  • It's good that they'll definitely eat
  • Since it's prepaid, there's no need to charge electronic money, and payment can be settled easily. It motivates me to eat a proper lunch, preventing me from overeating or undereating
  • You can eat without being stingy
  • I developed the habit of eating lunch, which saved me the trouble of having to recharge my card
  • Being able to eat meals regularly

Nutritional balance and health

  • Trying to keep the total to exactly 700 yen naturally leads to ordering side dishes as well, which means you get your vegetables
  • Children can eat without worrying about the cost of food
  • My diet is less unbalanced than before
  • Since I usually eat the same meals at home, it's great to be able to choose and eat a variety of dishes
  • You can tell they're eating with their health in mind
  • You can also eat plenty of vegetables and soup
  • You can get nutritious meals
  • I think the best things about this place are the smooth payment process and the fun of calculating the total with friends, perhaps by adding small side dishes to bring the bill down to around 700 yen

No payment required, cashless, no top-up needed

  • The ease of making daily payments and the ability to have lunch without worrying about having enough money on hand (balance)
  • The checkout process is quick
  • The checkout process is smooth
  • No need to frequently top up your base money
  • The base balance doesn't decrease, so there's not much need to top it up
  • The fact that you don't have to go through the trouble of topping up your balance
  • Cashless
  • Easy payment
  • Cashless

Convenience

  • Easy to manage without hassle
  • Easy to use
  • easy
  • A wide range of options are available for 700 yen per day

Living environment and lifestyle support

  • They were able to rent an apartment right next to the Komaba campus, and since the restaurant is open until late, they seem to be able to go there for meals after club activities. They also seem to feel safe going to school during lunchtime on school days
  • I can't cook for myself, so this is a lifesaver at night

others

  • I'm happy to be able to eat
  • none
  • Nothing in particular

11. What improvements would you like to see made to the Meal Pass?

Improvement of carryover and usage period

  • If I keep missing university classes due to typhoons or something, it loses its appeal
  • I had no choice but to waste the money I earned on the day of the entrance ceremony. I wish they would make it a 3500 yen per week system
  • I would like the school store to also include snacks and ice cream, and since it's allocated to days when there are no other reasons to go to university, such as supplementary classes, I would like the system to be tailored to individual needs and minimize waste as much as possible
  • There were days when I didn't have classes and didn't use it, so at first it seemed like I was going to university just to use it. Now that I know about the existence of multi-ride tickets, maybe I'll get those next year?
  • Sometimes I can't use up the 700 yen. In those cases, it would be great if I could accumulate it little by little and use it on weekends as well
  • I wish they would allow us to carry over unused days. It's not good that we can't carry over unused days, even though there are times when we have to eat out or don't go to school. I also saw that there's a fee deducted if the amount exceeds 2200 yen, so I hope they improve that
  • I can't use it all. Prepaid is enough
  • If I don't use it all in one day, I'd like it to be added so I can use it the next day
  • Even if you miss a day of university, you can't carry it over
  • I would like the remaining amount to be used to cover the cost of next year's meal pass
  • The fee for carrying over to the next fiscal year is too high
  • I would like to be able to carry over unused balances
  • It would be great if any unused funds could be carried over and used within the current fiscal year, rather than being carried over to the following year
  • Having to spend 700 yen every day. On days when I don't eat lunch at school, I lose the desire to buy even small things
  • I think it would be great if the remaining balance could be used for a week, rather than having to spend it all on the same day
  • I think it would be more convenient if any unused amount could be carried over to the base balance
  • I'd like the daily spending limit to be flexible. Specifically, I'd like the remaining balance to carry over to the next day (and I'd like the balance top-up fee to be handled in a way that makes deferred payment acceptable)
  • It's difficult to use them up on days when I don't go to university much, such as supplementary classes or during exam periods
  • There are days during the exam period when I don't have to go to school because there are no tests. Therefore, I would like meal passes not to be issued during the exam period, or a carry-over system to be implemented
  • I chose the 1400 plan because I was told that any unused portion of the daily allowance could be carried over to the next year. I heard that it might not be available during exam periods, etc. I'm unsure how much the carryover fee will be, but I'm unhappy that I'll be charged a carryover fee even though I can't use the pass because the co-op can't provide meals. It wouldn't be a problem if the fee was small, but I don't know where the fee is stated

Expansion of available products

  • I think it would be good if snacks and similar items were paid for from the base rather than the meal pass
  • I would like to see more products that qualify for the meal pass when purchased
  • I frequently buy jelly drinks, so I'd like them to be included in the meal program
  • I would like it to be available for all food items in the purchasing department so that it can be used up completely
  • There are few items that can be purchased with the meal pass, such as ice cream
  • I would like to see an increase in the range of products that can be purchased with the meal pass. In particular, it would be great if items like instant noodles and snacks could be purchased with the meal pass. University and graduate students tend to skip meals altogether, rather than being concerned about nutritional value. However, I think this is really not good, so I would appreciate it if the meal pass could be applied to food items in general. At my previous university, we were able to purchase instant noodles and snacks with a system similar to the meal pass, so I felt it was inconvenient in that respect. I am well aware that the system differs from one university cooperative to another, but I would like to ask for your consideration in order to contribute to the cooperative's sales and to increase the number of university and graduate students who eat meals

Expansion of available stores and facilities

  • Places where you can't use the cafeteria at Komaba Research..
  • I would like to see more shops that accept this (Komaba Campus: Italian Tomato, Caffe Vigore, CAFETERIA KOMOREBI, Le Son Vert)
  • I want the number of stores where I can purchase to increase
  • It would be great if it could be used during breaks when there are no classes. It would also be nice if it could be used at cafes and other places where it's not currently available, as it would give us more options

Review of usage fees and plan settings

  • I know this is a long shot, but since it seems like I'm not eating the side dishes when I get multiple small dishes for 700 yen, I would really appreciate it if you could make the whole set 700 yen
  • discount rate
  • 1000 yen is too much for one meal, but often not enough for two meals, so it's an awkward price point. I'd like it to be around 1200 yen
  • It seems 700 yen isn't quite enough, so they're using some of their base money. 1400 yen is too much; I'd prefer something around 900-1000 yen
  • 800 yen per meal might be too much, but at 700 yen per meal, it seems like I end up losing money every time. Also, in April, the cafeteria was so crowded that I couldn't use the meal pass I had bought, which was a real problem
  • The amount set per transaction is small
  • There is a difference between the actual amount spent and the daily price of the meal pass
  • I'd like the maximum amount I can pay in one transaction to be increased to around 800 yen
  • I'd also like to see a 600 yen multi-ride ticket
  • 700 yen isn't quite enough, so I'd like the 800 yen plan
  • I would like to see more options for daily usage fees

Long holidays, weekends and public holidays, and graduate student accommodations available

  • It would be good if graduate students could also use the facilities in August, September, February, and March
  • I want them to increase the variety so that it can be purchased year-round
  • I would like to be able to use it on weekends, public holidays, and during long vacations
  • I find it hard to understand why the meal pass can't be used on weekends and during summer vacation. I work on campus, so I would like it to be usable then

System and Information Improvement

  • I would like to see the amount carried over visualized
  • Too often, the barcode needs to be reloaded before it can be used
  • It would be great if we could use contactless payment without having to open the app
  • The usage history is reflected too slowly, taking until the next day. I would like it to be reflected at the same time on the same day
  • I would like to see the remaining balance

Improving cafeteria congestion

  • The Komaba cafeteria was so crowded that I couldn't use my meal pass (I ended up having to buy bread and other items from the cafeteria)
  • The wait is long, but there's nothing we can do about it

Relaxation of usage limits and conditions

  • I would like the usage limit for meal tickets to be increased to two times (for lunch and dinner)

Payment and top-up methods

  • Please don't consolidate the charges by month or at the beginning of the fiscal year

Improvements to rounding

  • There will be fractional amounts
  • "704 yen including tax"...the frustration of not having enough change

Opinions on the system and its operation

  • The fact that the prices are set high in pursuit of profit is undesirable for a student cooperative

Maintain the status quo / Nothing in particular

  • From a parent's perspective, I can't think of anything at the moment
  • I would like to request that the status quo be maintained

12. Please write down any comments you have regarding the university co-op app

Improvement of communication and connectivity environment

  • The University of Tokyo's Wi-Fi can be unreliable during peak hours, such as lunchtime. It might be a good idea to mention this
  • Because of the large number of users, the Wi-Fi and signal strength seem to be poor, so wouldn't it be smoother if offline payment and other processes were possible?
  • It sometimes takes a long time to open, so I hope this can be improved

Multiple user account management

  • I have children who attend different universities. Every time, I have to log out and log in with each child's ID. I want to be able to see the status of multiple children at a glance using a single ID
  • The guardian's name is listed as my husband's, and since it's checked at the register when I use it, I'd like to be able to register two names as guardians
  • I would like the system to change so that users first select whether they are the individual or their guardian
  • I can't switch accounts from other university co-op accounts, so I'd like this to be improved. Currently, I'm using a web browser

Improvement of charging method

  • It would be convenient if we could top up our base money using a credit card. At the very least, it would be great if you could add "Japan Post Bank" to the list of banks from which we can send money
  • It's inconvenient that some banks don't allow parental top-ups
  • The extremely limited number of charging methods is something that could be improved
  • I'd like to see credit card top-ups reinstated, even if it means charging a fee

Visualization of usage history and balance

  • I would like to be able to check my purchases on the app on the same day
  • While I can view my usage history details, I would like to be able to see the total amount spent and the total amount of unused meal passes for the period, so that I can more easily determine if my current plan is appropriate
  • Since the account is logged in under the parent's name, it's difficult to know how the child is using it. Unlike toddlers or elementary school children, I don't think it's desirable to pry into the life of a university student, but it would be helpful if there was an easy way to see how much money they have left
  • It would be great if purchases were reflected in the app immediately, as this would prevent my lunch menu from overlapping with my dinner menu

Improved operability/UI

  • There are a few things that are a little difficult to use, but overall I think it's fine
  • It's not very user-friendly

App rating (satisfied)

  • It's easy to use, which is very helpful
  • I think the redesign makes it much easier to use. The ability to top up base money on the child's app is the most convenient feature
  • The smooth checkout process is a plus. Otherwise, it's neither particularly good nor bad
  • There's nothing in particular to mention. I think it's generally easy to use

Peace of mind from checking on meal status

  • I was worried about my son's diet since he lives alone, but thanks to MealPass, I feel at ease

others

  • I don't know because I'm not the user

13. Please tell us about any combinations you frequently use or any products you have purchased through our service

  • Fish, tofu, spinach, boiled egg
  • I'll use the leftover money from lunch at the cafeteria to buy something at the school store
  • Lunch plus a sweet bun for a snack cost 700 yen plus a little extra
  • hearty meals
  • Shredded cabbage
  • Chicken Tatsuta Donburi, Large Chocolate Chip Melon Bread, Cajun Chicken Wrap Salad
  • Noodles plus one small side dish, and dumplings
  • In addition to the main dish, I ate side dishes such as mekabu seaweed and natto (fermented soybeans). I was very grateful for the side dishes
  • The shop mainly sells tea and sports drinks, while the cafeteria sells okra nest eggs
  • It seems they eat noodles quite often
  • Fried dumplings and beef croquettes
  • Okra nest eggs
  • Menus created by a registered dietitian + vegetable side dishes
  • This is a chicken tatsuta rice bowl with a small side dish of vegetables
  • My son seems to like noodles and eats them often. He also mentioned that he eats them because the wait times at lunchtime tend to be shorter
  • Main dish (rice bowl or noodles) and side dishes (spinach or shredded cabbage)
  • Soy milk. I add it to my coffee to make a soy latte
  • I often buy dango (rice dumplings) at the school store. They're the kind with strained bean paste filling
  • Hanaichi Bento Box: Rice, Miso Soup, Teriyaki Chicken
  • Fried dumplings

14. Would you like to continue using the meal plan in the next fiscal year and beyond?

15. If you selected "No" in the above question (number 14), please tell us your reason

Dissatisfaction with the system

  • There are occasional days when I can't use my meal pass, such as during typhoons or on days without tests, which ultimately makes buying the meal pass pointless
  • It's difficult to use because it can go to waste due to school events, weather-related cancellations, and other reasons
  • Having a meal pass is helpful, but honestly, I can't use up 1400 yen worth of it, and to use it all up, I'd have to use the school store or cafeteria, which would feel restrictive. Also, I don't think I'll be attending school every day next year, so I don't think I need a daily pass
  • Depending on the lecture schedule, there may be no opportunity to use the meal pass, or conversely, there may be times when you end up buying things you don't want (food) just to use up the meal pass
  • Because the balance is updated daily, users feel pressured to spend it every day, making it difficult to feel the urge to make purchases freely
  • It's not very advantageous. It would be great if the unused portion could be used for at least three days later
  • There are no benefits

Mismatch between usage style and living environment

  • I go even on days when there is no school
  • Limited food options
  • I'll be going to Hongo in the second half of my second year. There are a lot of restaurants near Hongo, so I'm not sure if I'll use the cafeteria every day
  • I don't know how much I'll use it in graduate school

others

  • Since it's the fourth year, there won't be a next year

16. Please write down any other comments or requests you may have. We will use them for future reference

Requests regarding the meal system and its usage

  • My child appreciates being able to use the school store even when they don't have time to eat. As a first-grader, they could only purchase a meal pass, but they say they want to continue with a multi-use ticket next year. As a parent, I'm really grateful that I can give them money for food expenses and that I can share how they're using it
  • I was told that any unused portion from the previous year would be returned to me the following year, but I asked questions such as whether there would be a fee, when and to which fund it would be carried over, etc. (for students entering in 2025). The only disappointing thing was that I didn't get an explanation
  • If possible, I would like to request that the usage limit for meal tickets be increased to two times (for use at lunch and dinner). If it were possible to renew meal tickets a few hours later, it would be possible to use one for lunch and then another for dinner. I also believe that if the usage limits were changed from 50 to 20, with a maximum of 200 uses, the number of users and usage would increase. Thank you for your consideration
  • The initial charge amount is too high
  • If the cafeteria is unavailable due to the stated fees and the cooperative's circumstances, then I would like them to either waive the carry-over fee or remove the daily usage fee

Requests for the cafeteria menu

  • Thank you for your continued support. I hope the cafeteria will continue to work hard on developing new menu items so that we can keep enjoying them without getting bored
  • Thank you for always providing delicious meals. Please incorporate student feedback into menu development. Also, although I understand there may be transaction fees, it would be great if we could use credit cards for membership fees and other payments
  • I'm looking forward to the development of new menu items in the cafeteria, such as dishes that include plenty of vegetables
  • I'd love to see a feature where users share their ideas, like topping kake soba with okra and an egg nest, or topping curry with a croquette. Other people's combinations are bound to be unexpected and interesting
  • Regarding the contents of the bento box: I would like the carbohydrates to be reduced and the protein and green and yellow vegetables to be increased
  • They say the stone-grilled bibimbap is the best. Please continue to offer dishes that students will enjoy

Opinions on price and fees

  • The cooperative has deviated from its original purpose and is pursuing profit-driven motives. If the prices are the same as nearby regular restaurants, then the cafeteria has no value. At the very least, the university should be providing the space at a low cost, so it should be able to offer prices lower than regular restaurants. The cooperative and the cafeteria should be operated with the original meaning in mind
  • I imagine that you considered options such as increasing the average customer spending, perhaps utilizing consultants, but since the university cooperative is fundamentally a cooperative for faculty and students, I hope you will not place too much emphasis on profit-making. The same applies to the sale of computers and commemorative goods. As both a parent and an alumnus, I am disappointed. Regarding the meal pass, I believe it should ideally be based on the price of a set meal menu, and there is no need to encourage wasteful spending
  • I understand that prices are rising, but even with the member prices, the co-op's prices still seem relatively high compared to convenience stores and other retailers. I would be grateful if you could make an effort to offer prices that are affordable for students
  • I'd like the cafeteria prices to be listed in 10-yen increments to make calculations easier

Credit card usage and top-up

  • I want the option to top up using a credit card back
  • Even if a fee is charged for topping up credit cards, depending on the percentage, some people might still want to use it for point-earning activities

Expanding the number of available locations

  • I'd be happy if it became available in vending machines in dorms and things like that!

Measures to prevent overcrowding in the cafeteria

  • To alleviate congestion, how about selling items that can only be used outside of peak hours (such as 12:00 to 12:30) at a discounted price?

Thank you for your kind words

  • Thank you as always. It's a great help
  • I look forward to working with you again next year
  • Thank you for the update; it's very good. I hope it will get even better based on the survey results
  • I'm grateful for the meal pass
  • Thank you as always for the delicious meals!
  • I know inflation is making things difficult, but thank you for your continued support
  • I'm grateful for the cooperative
