JR ticket handling [Midori no Madoguchi]

Hongo Travel Center is a "Green Window"

You can purchase JR tickets (rail tickets, Shinkansen tickets, etc.) on campus, so you don't have to go to the station!

Note: There are some tickets that cannot be handled, such as tickets reserved through "Eki-net"

Those using public funds can apply by fax or email!

Good to know! JR ticket discount information

  • Student Discount Certificate (School Student Passenger Fare Discount Certificate)
    Students can get a 20% discount on fares (tickets) by using a "Student Discount Certificate"!
    *Student Discount Certificates can be issued at the administrative office of your faculty or graduate school or at a certificate issuing machine.

  • For long distances,
    buy a round trip ticket! If the distance is over 601 km and the round trip is the same, buy a round trip ticket! You
    get a 10% discount for each one-way trip. Combine with the student discount for a total discount of 2.8%!
    *Please note that the validity period of the ticket varies depending on the distance.

JR group tickets

If you are traveling with 8 students and 1 supervisor using JR, a group ticket is a great deal!

If eight students and one chaperone (faculty or staff member) travel together, the fare (ride ticket portion) will be half price!
The chaperone will receive a 30% discount.

How to apply

  • Fill out the necessary information on the "Group Travel Application Form" available at the Travel Center
  • Please apply at the university office to have the university's official seal affixed to your application form
    (Guideline: Approximately 3 weeks before departure)
    Depending on the affiliation of the group members, the contact point will be the respective faculty/graduate school office or the Student Support Division at headquarters
    The application documents to be submitted to the university office are listed here
  • Receive a "Group Travel Application Form" with the university's official seal and submit it to the Travel Center
    (between 9 months and 14 days before departure).
  • Once submitted, you will receive a response to your application within 3-4 days
  • The number of people will be confirmed and tickets will be issued approximately 14 days before departure
  • Tickets will arrive in about 3-4 days after they are issued. Once they arrive, you will be asked to pay and we will hand them over to you
