Let's think about the future of universities and co-ops: Report on the first "The Future of Universities and the University of Tokyo" seminar
This event was held on Monday, November 18th at the Hongo Bookstore, with 24 people attending in person and 30 people participating online. Thank you to everyone who participated
What happened on the day
The event began with a talk by Professor Emeritus Yoshimi Toshiya of the University of Tokyo, based on the essence of his final lecture, which took place in March 2023. This was followed by a discussion between Professor Emeritus Yoshimi and University of Tokyo Co-op President Genda Arifumi. The
talk covered topics such as "performance," "authority," "competition," "horizontal expansion," and "being confused together," providing hints for thinking about the future of universities and co-ops.

Comments received (excerpts)
・The thing that made the biggest impression on me was that the venue was inside the University of Tokyo Co-op Hongo Bookstore.
・I enjoyed the exchange between Professor Genda and Professor Yoshimi. I felt that there is a lot of background to the university's history.
・It is wonderful that we are able to carry out such a culturally significant project. I learned a lot.
・I was impressed by Professor Yoshimi's way of speaking, which dynamically conveyed the state and atmosphere of the ideas and movements of the time.
We are also considering holding a second event and beyond, so please look forward to future events
