The University of Tokyo Consumers' Co-operative (hereinafter referred to as "Party A") and the University of Tokyo Press (hereinafter referred to as "Party B") enter into the agreement as follows:
Shortly after the war, University of Tokyo Cooperative Publishing, the predecessor of University A, was the foundation for University B's establishment, and the two organizations have shared a common history. Today, as we reach the milestone of our 70th anniversary, the world situation is changing dramatically, forcing us to reassess the nature of our book and publishing businesses within the university. In this context, strengthening our collaboration further is expected to be significant not only as a business entity, but also as a way to promote a culture in which people who make up the university's intellectual community learn, question, and discuss together.
Because both organizations have a rich history of working with the medium of books, disseminating academic information, and engaging in peace activities symbolized by the publication of "Listen to the Voices of the Sea," I am confident that this agreement will allow us to further leverage, share, and enhance our respective strengths.
