So that we don't forget our bonds

In September 2017, during renovations to the central cafeteria, Keiji Usami's artwork "Kizuna" (Bond) was carelessly discarded. It was commissioned in 1976 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the University of Tokyo Co-op's founding, funded by donations from its officers and staff, and was donated to the Co-op that same year. For 40 years, from 1977, it adorned the wall of the central cafeteria, watching over the members of the University of Tokyo community.
The University of Tokyo Co-op deeply regrets discarding the artwork due to a lack of information sharing and understanding of the painting, and pledges to work to prevent recurrence and to pass on this history.
